Warbirdsim P-51D Mustang Tales
Compatibility: Flight Simulator X
This product tells the stories of 15 different Mustangs and the developmental legacy of the P-51D and F-51D from WWII to Korea and the present day. The aircraft have all been developed as different aircraft throughout, ensuring that each one is accurate and authentic from the airframes, cockpits and aft cockpits to the gun bays and wheel wells of each specific variant. Throughout development, the original NAA blueprint drawings, USAAF and USAF Technical Orders, assembly and maintenance manual, pilot's manuals, period photographs, and other leading research and resources were all consulted.
See the Extended Description for the details of the included aircraft.
16 variants representing P-51 naval service and life following WWII
The most accurate exterior model of a P-51D ever seen in computer form, created using original engineering drawings, dimensions and cross-reference photos
Simulated engine damage (Acceleration/Gold users only)
Realistic supercharger (Acceleration/Gold users only)
Bump texturing and specular lighting add authenticity to an already-wonderfully detailed, 3D model. Reflective textures make the bare metal aircraft almost as translucent as the original)!

A full array of effects includes lighting, start-up, dirt taxi, and landing
Highly functional virtual cockpit
Realistic flight dynamics that closely match the handling characteristics of the real P-51D

P-51D-5-NA 44-14017 was borrowed by the US Navy for carrier operation trials. Fitted with arrestor hook and catapult gear, the aircraft completed 25 successful landings and take-offs aboard the USS. Shangri-La. Both the aircraft and aircraft carrier are included in this extensive collection.
Had the Navy rushed a Naval version of the P-51D into production by the summer of 1945, we see what that aircraft might have looked like, fresh off the production line, in the “what if?” FJ-1D ‘Seahorse’.
An accurate depiction of the USS Shangri-La, developed by Michael Davies, is included in this product, and is depicted as it was at the time of the P-51 carrier trials. The carrier is set up with an AI route that takes the ship from the Norfolk docks up into Chesapeake Bay where the original trials actually took place. The ship's schedule even follows the times recorded from the ship's logs.
Using original North American plans and blueprints and working from literally thousands of photographs and sketches incorporating three years of extensive research and development, this is THE enthusiast's definitive version that many have long been waiting for!
