Far more than just scenery, Emma Field includes the activities, sights, and sounds of daily life on a small airfield near Seattle, from the quiet winter days when only the local FBO is doing its flying business, to the busy summer weekends when the glider pilots drive up to the airport with their trailers. Even the relaxed summer evenings come alive when the barbeque at the Flying Club is lit for the people who stay overnight!
Every event that you see is modelled and is subject to the time and weather (using FS2002s real-time weather option is advised for the ultimate realism). This means that the airport will be very quiet on a stormy winter Monday morning but in full swing on a sunny Saturday in August.
To enhance the feeling of the actual living field there are many sound effects that play, depending on location, event and time. Youll hear the birds in the woods, the laughter of people drinking beer at the barbeque, the sounds of Fritz working in the hangar, and much more. If you land on nearby Lake Cushman, youll find a floatplane jetty and youll even hear the waves and the frogs.
Glider pilots are in for a real treat as Emma Field now adds wind and temperature-dependent thermals. You will be able to see detailed glider operations with gliders that are brought to the airport, unpacked and assembled and winch-launched. Even the ground crew involved in the glider operations are shown with all the correct arm gestures!
The powered aircraft that arrive and depart all fly complex circuits (these can be made visible with a menu option) and when you join them you will be guided from your parking on the apron to the active runway by another member of the Emma Field Flying Club. When you arrive they will help you to find free parking and will help you avoid collisions with other aircraft.
Emma Field is that perfect airfield, designed to give you a starting point for your flights. A home from home inside FS2002, a place you will slowly get to know better. Its a great place to spend some time when you are tired of the big jets, or if you simply prefer the smaller airfields or are a dedicated bush pilot then Emma Field is a taste of heaven.
