A1R Yak-50

At the beginning of the 1970s, the OKB 115 decided to develop an aircraft specifically to be flown in high level aerobatic competitions based on the Yak-18PS, an aerobatic version of the Yak-18 military training aircraft. The project started in 1972 and the result was the highly capable Yak-50.

The Yak-50 possesses high aerobatic characteristics but with fast and precise reactions to the control inputs with an acceptable loading. All these factors were decisive in its victory in the 8th FAI Aerobatic Championship in Kiev in 1976, where the aircraft won first places for both the male and female categories.
